Anthropic opens verified access to AI models for life sciences

The Life Sciences Verification Program launched in beta for vetted organizations, with more permissive biology safeguards for Mythos 5.1, Opus 5 and Sonnet 5. Access is available through Anthropic’s API console and Claude Team and Enterprise; individual plans and third-party platforms are excluded.

Participating labs must accept 30-day data retention. Higher-risk work requires additional project approval; BAA-enabled organizations cannot join the beta.

Mathematical framework identifies when disorder stabilizes networks

Northwestern researchers identified conditions under which differences between network components or connections improve stability against small disturbances. Tests used models of grids, neurons, flocks, materials and ecosystems; excessive variation can instead destabilize a system.

Engineers could use the framework to search for stabilizing variations in grid or material models; the study does not establish performance in deployed systems.

Lunar orbiter observations reveal cooling around McGetchin crater

NASA reported research on a 728-foot-wide lunar crater formed between April and May 2024. LRO thermal observations found a surrounding area four miles across that is about 16°F cooler at night. Researchers attribute the cooling to impact-loosened regolith that retains less heat.

The findings identify surface changes far beyond the crater rim that could affect how rover wheels interact with lunar terrain.
