NASA verifies Roman guidance and coronagraph imaging

NASA reports pointing stability better than 0.00001 degrees for eight-hour coronagraph observations. The instrument imaged stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud on September 22 and 27, confirming focus and pointing during commissioning; these were limited tests.

Engineers can use the stellar test images to refine the coronagraph’s view ahead of further tests for imaging faint planets beside bright stars.
